Director of Public Outreach

The Director of Public Outreach is responsible for the vision, strategic direction and day-to-day management/oversight of the Public Outreach team.

This key role has overall responsibility for contract, scope management, and financial performance of public outreach projects. The Director of Public Outreach develops and communicates a vision for the company’s community outreach and engagement. The Director also manages and facilitates internal team planning meetings, weekly client meetings, and participates in the annual business planning effort including development of plans for growth, new markets to enter, relationships to build, and staffing efforts to accommodate the plan.

Successful candidates:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Administration/Public Policy, Urban Planning, Political Science, Business Administration, or another related field or equivalent, plus 10+ year’s directly relevant community outreach and engagement experience. Master’s degree is preferred and may be used to substitute for 1 year required experience.
  • Are value-driven leaders with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and cross-cultural issues.
  • Have exceptional interpersonal and community engagement skills, with demonstrated ability to facilitate difficult conversations and to build consensus with diverse public, private, and community-based stakeholder groups.
  • Have superb skills at driving community and multi-stakeholder process to support clients.
  • Possess deep experience engaging with diverse communities and building relationships.
  • Are excellent public speakers and have outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Have demonstrated ability to lead organizational change.
  • Understand and/or are interested in urban planning, urban design, construction, architecture, and/or real estate development desirable.
  • Can monitor and manage multiple projects and budgets and have excellent time management skills.
  • Work collaboratively with contractors, consultants, and clients.
  • Have strong people development skills, and experience coaching and mentoring a team of five or more.
  • Are fluent in social media platforms and applications, understand digital assets and the software tools needed to succeed.
  • Are adaptable, resourceful, and capable of resolving complex situations.
