PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Originally built in 1911, the Gloucester drawbridge supports the Newbury/Rockport MBTA Commuter Rail line over the Annisquam River. The MBTA suspended service across the bridge in 2020 due to site conditions and decided to replace the bridge. The existing single two-track moveable draw is being replaced with two new single-track moveable drawers, with new piers and abutments. A new signal control tower is being constructed with mechanical and electrical systems integrated with the railroad signal system.
